Hello Internet, and welcome to

Behind

the

Meme.

Today we have a look at Behind

thəəəəəəəə

Meme.

Lemme take you all back to a age of technology that was totally cutting edge:

The 2010's.

We had smartphones,

smartphones,

We even had cars.

Yeah, like I said, cutting

edge.

But technology really stood out when it came to

Vine.

The quality was so realistic that it would blow you away.

I specifically remember watching Vines in the 2010's and being shocked with how realistic they looked.

Here, lemme show you guys what I'm talking about.

Wow, I think this might actually be a photograph and not an AI image...

Okay, looking back now, maybe the quality of that era doesn't hold up exactly how I remember them...

But quality didn't matter.

What mattered back then was the Viner.

Jérôme Jarre and Chloe Lmao ruled the market.

And back then the genre of Vines known as "pranks" werrrrrrre kiiiiiing.

Lele Pons was dominating the prank world, but a new character was dominating the world of meme history: Behind the Meme.

Behind the Meme videos are an addictive channel in which you listen to a 30-year-old explain memes while being condescended to, liking, and subscribing.

Yeah,

the 2010's were pretty cool.

I personally sunk countless hours into watching this channel.

Many memories were made between myself, my brother,

and my cousins.

Back then this channel was pretty frustrating as well because some of the videos can get pretty repetitive and my dumb child brain couldn't do things like division, tie my shoes, or get through a video, so I left them to my older cousin to do.

The point that I'm trying to make with saying all of this is that I spent a good amount of time watching the first couple of videos on the channel.

And if you were anything like me and spent any prolonged amount of time watching the Behind the Meme videos, a couple of sound effects more than likely became ingrained in your brain.

The first being "Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme," and the second being Behind the Meme's infamous "But hey, that's the internet for you, and on the internet, memes are kiiiiing."

Those of you who have watched the channel know exactly what I'm talking about.

"But hey, that's the internet for you, and on the internet, memes are kiiiiing."

Uh, wrong "But hey, that's the internet for you, and on the internet, memes are kiiiiing."

"But hey, that's the internet for you, and on the internet, memes are kiiiiing."

Fast forward to the uploading of "MEME Theory: How Behind The Meme is Ruining the Memescape as we Know It" and add in popular YouTuber EmpLemon who is not only a talented pooper, but also a lover of memes.

He had a series of videos in which he criticized Behind the Meme.

In one of the videos, he began to often humorously quote the iconic sound effect while talking.

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"I'm pretty scared now."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

This quickly became a memorable line that his viewers would often mock, but the seeds of the meme were officially planted when YouTuber EmpLemon uploaded an apology video on August 16, 2017.

This was the perfect recipe for remixes and edits [of BTM] and since then the Behind the Meme "Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme" have been used in unexpected and humorous ways.

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Have you ever tried a disguise?"

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"Hello Internet, and welcome to Behind the Meme."

"All right. I can see that I will have to teach you how to be

villains!"

You know what?

After all these years, I have to ask,

What is a meme?

Am I the only one who doesn't know what one looks like?

Okay,

apparently a meme is an idea, behavior, or style[1]

I guess.

This thing like spreads from person to person within a culture, and acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols or practices or something.[1]

Damn.

Richard Dawkins was really running out of ideas towards the end, wasn't he?

Whatever.

I stopped questioning memes and atheists back when people were catching Pokémon IRL and Donald Trump got elected.

So there you have it.

What was once a simple YouTube channel for many who enjoy watching YouTube videos has found new life as a subject of ridicule a year later.

But hey, that's the internet for you, and on the internet

memes

arrrrre

kiiiiing.
