Antiochus IV Epiphanes was a Seleucid emperor who made the Jews dissolve their laws and eat pork. This was especially bad because Jesus had not fulfilled the law yet. They rebelled against him in the Maccabean Revolt. They succeeded and started the holiday of Hanukkah to celebrate it. This is written about in the useful books I Maccabees and II Maccabees and in Josephus's Wars of the Jews.
