Immanuel Kant was the first philosopher to come up with a theory of morality based on the dignity of the human person. However, he wrote in German, was really really intelligent, and stared at a steeple, so other than that, no one really knows what he was on about. For example, he came up with the categorical imperative, but we don't really understand what it is.
