Chess is a board game that is based off of some game from India but got formalized into its modern rules in southern Europe in like 1200.

Computers have gotten really good at it. In 1997, a computer won a chess match using classical time controls against a reigning World Champion for the first time. Today, the endgame has been completely indexed, so there are computer programs that are able to play the endgame perfectly.

It became popular again in 2020, and it was because of PogChamps, not The Queen's Gambit.
