"bad idea right?" is an Olivia Rodrigo song.

It is about her wanting to hook up with her ex and is whack.

Lyrics analysis[edit | edit source]

Hey
Haven't heard from you in a couple of months

I don't think this guy actually loves her.

But I'm out right now, and I'm all fucked up

It is pretty hard to make good decisions while you're under the influence.

And you're callin' my phone, you're all alone
And I'm sensin' some undertone

This is what we term a "booty call."

And I'm right here with all my friends
But you're sendin' me your new address
And I know we're done, I know we're through
But, God, when I look at you
My brain goes, "Ah"
Can't hear my thoughts (I cannot hear my thoughts)
Like blah-blah-blah (blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah)

The previous lyrics make it clear that the communication was through phone call and not FaceTime, so the temptation should actually be easy to resist.

Should probably not
I should probably, probably not
I should probably, probably not

I would concur, as well.

Seein' you tonight, it's a bad idea, right?
Seein' you tonight, it's a bad idea, right?
Seein' you tonight, it's a bad idea, right?
Seein' you tonight, fuck it, it's fine

Actually answered her own question.

Yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect?

It's actually pretty obvious that they both just want sex at this point.

"I only see him as a friend," the biggest lie I ever said

It's not entirely clear who she's talking to at this point, so we can probably assume she's actually just lying to herself.

Oh, yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect?

See above commentary.

I only see him as a friend, I just tripped and fell into his bed

I don't even need a polygraph to determine that that was a lie.

Now I'm gettin' in the car, wreckin' all my plans

This indicates that the previous line was misplaced.

I know I should stop-, but I can't

Honestly I didn't even know girl psychology worked like that.

And I told my friends I was asleep
But I never said where or in whose sheets

It's also misleading because she is not actually in a bed yet.

And I pull up to your place, on the second floor

Apartments in the United States usually don't have parking on their upper levels, so she probably would have had to park at ground level.

And you're standin', smiling at the door
And I'm sure I've seen much hotter men
But I really can't remember when

She's acting like she's never seen this man before.

My brain goes, "Ah"
Can't hear my thoughts (I cannot hear my thoughts)
Like blah-blah-blah (blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah)

I'm kind of confused by this because the previous lines make it sound like she's not actually that physically attracted to him.

Should probably not
I should probably, probably not
I should probably, probably not
Seein' you tonight, it's a bad idea, right?
Seein' you tonight, it's a bad idea, right?
Seein' you tonight, it's a bad idea, right?
Seein' you tonight, fuck it, it's fine
Yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect?
"I only see him as a friend, " the biggest lie I ever said
Oh, yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect?
I only see him as a friend, I just tripped and fell into his bed
Oh, yes, I know that he's my ex
Can't two people reconnect?
The biggest lie I ever said
I just tripped and fell into his bed
My brain goes, "Ah"
Can't hear my thoughts
The biggest lie I ever said
My brain goes, "Ah"
Can't hear my thoughts
I just tripped and fell into his bed

(This is just repeating previous lyrics.)

Thoughts
Blah
Thoughts
Blah

That's some whack lyrics right there.
